A morning beside the canal

The city wakes slowly along the water. Start with a short walk before the cycle lanes fill, and leave enough time to pause by the smaller bridges. The best route is often the one that allows a quiet detour.

Look for reflections on still mornings, then turn away from the busiest streets. Small neighbourhood squares offer a place to sit and watch the daily rhythm. Bring a light waterproof layer: an overcast sky can change quickly. When the rain arrives, a nearby café is a useful place to unfold a paper map and choose the next stop.
